Tree Leaves ~ Northwest corner of Backyard

If memory serves, I read that this elongated vertical print style was known as  "Japanese Style" in the Photo Pictorialist  era,  perhaps suggesting a scroll,  or a favored orientation by the Japanese art photographers of the 20's and 30's. Here's my take. Jim Staub

The Dormant Fig Tree

The fig tree in our backyard sheds to a stark haiku in winter. It will become an ode to spring very soon.

I couldn't quite let the graphic quality of the tree against a dull gray sky alone, and finally arrived at something  in the school of the Japanese woodblock printing.   I plead guilty to infidelity to the photographic image, and will return to the role of faithful documenter of reality, very soon.  Jim Staub

After Sunset - Washington Blvd. at Catalina in Foreground ~ Pasadena

I was just up to this gas station on Sunday, filling up the tank for the drive to my dad's house 90+ miles to the east for Super Bowl Sunday.  Is the "Sunday" necessary in Super Bowl Sunday?  I left as the 3rd quarter was beginning. Found a radio station to pick up were the big flat screen left off.  Located one, and heard the remainder of the football game from Hemet to San Bernardino. The Giants won and I kept my foot on the gas another hour till home.  Jim Staub

Working the Angles Workshop at Pasadena City Hall ~ Feb. 4, 2012

Pasadena city hall's central domed tower.

Avid photographer/actor, Gale Davis made this delightful video
as a student during my workshop.  He gets extra credit for this
production he knocked out in short order. Thank Gale!

My good friends at the Pasadena Museum of History invited me to lead a photography workshop, on a blazing blue sky morning Saturday as it turned out. Perfect light to study the effects of shadows especially. Super nice and attentive group, with a range of cameras.  These intrepid camera slingers followed me around the grounds and interior of city hall for some tips and advice.  Here's few snaps I made in the course of the workshop. Thanks for making this a fine outing in Crown City! Jim Staub
